The Jewish Community Alliance (JCA) is a nonprofit organization serving Southern Maine. A merger of the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation of Southern Maine, the JCA combines programming and fundraising for the Jewish Community. Its mission is to build Jewish community locally, in Israel and throughout the world. The JCA develops, provides, and supports diverse programs, education and services. We work with other Jewish organizations and local congregations, and functions as the hub of Jewish programming in Southern Maine./color>
A TASTE OF MELTON
Come join the JCA for a Taste of Melton! The Florence Melton adult mini-school is an interactive, pluralistic classroom environment for adults at all levels of Jewish knowledge and practice. Join us for a “taste”, with a 30 minute sample lesson, “Entering the Sacred”, taught by Melton faculty Dov Goldberg and Ellie Miller.

Then, begin your Melton adventure with Rhythms and Purposes of Jewish Living….
What is the purpose of prayer? What does in mean to be chosen people? How do holidays and observances connect us to our community? Is the Torah the revealed word of God? What is the meaning of live? Why do people suffer?
No tests. No homework. No grades. Classes meet once a week for 2 ½ hours beginning Tuesday, October 12 at 9:30am or Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00pm. Classes will be offered in morning and evening sessions and will meet for 30 sessions at the Atrium at Cedars.
Rosh Hodesh: it's a girl thing!
Rosh Hodesh is a group for girls, grades 6-9, to do ritual, munch, talk, learn and feel comfortable, Jewish and good about themselves while having fun! Join us at the JCA once a month.
8th and 9th graders meet Mondays, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
6th and 7th graders meet Tuesdays, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Session starts September 13 & 14.
Cost is $136 for the year, which includes dinner. $36 due at registration with balance due by September 15.
