Each day at the JCA Preschool much time is spent exploring the children’s ideas and helping them make sense of the world around them. Projects and study are driven by children’s interests and inquiry and may involve an entire class or a small group. The curriculum is designed to allow children to express their increasing confidence and independence, while meeting the challenge of their curiosity, energy and endless enthusiasm.
Every Friday at 12:15, our school invites family members to join us for a weekly whole school Shabbat program. Special annual events include a Thanksgiving celebration, Hanukkah and Purim parties, graduation and an end of the year family fun at Center Day Camp. Guest speakers include visits from the local fire and police stations and local rabbis.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom and participate in activities. There are many extracurricular activities that families can get involved with, from apple picking to hot lunches to our holiday celebrations, and we have a wonderful parent committee. Families are the heart of the ECE!
If I had more time, I would run around Portland waving the flag for the JCA. We love it and most importantly our kids love it and adore all of the teachers and staff.
