Yom Ha'atzmaut Picnic & Situational Awareness Workshop

Join us on May 4th at Adas Yoshuron Synagogue in Rockland for a delicious picnic and informative workshop with Harel Oren.

"On Oct. 7, 2023, Oren, his colleague Ilan Cohen and fewer than a dozen other Emergency Response Team members held off about 80 Hamas terrorists who arrived in a convoy of pickup trucks at dawn. Waiting 10 hours for military backup, the tiny group of defenders prevented what could have been a mass murder at the kibbutz. By engaging scores of invaders, the Re’im team may have prevented even greater atrocities at the nearby Nova music festival and other communities along the Gaza border. It is impossible to measure a thing that didn’t happen, but Oren and his colleagues certainly saved dozens of lives — possibly hundreds."

Pat Johnson, Substack

"Harel, head of Reim’s security squad, was one of just six guards who jumped to defend it against Hamas attackers — a force that later grew to 10 by the time military and police arrived. “Just promise me you’ll put on your helmet and your vest all the time and be safe,” Keren recalled telling her husband after an early-morning alert sent him into action. "

Joseph Strauss, JTA News

"Despite the proximity of the Gaza Division base, Re’im’s defenders—led by local security chief Harel and assisted remotely by the kibbutz’s emergency coordinator—remained alert and took initiative. Armed with equipment they had purchased themselves, including bulletproof vests, helmets, radios and rifles they kept at home rather than locked in communal armories, the team had recently undergone a drill simulating an infiltration and hostage crisis. That drill was led by Lt. Col. Asaf Chamami, who was killed that day in fighting near Kibbutz Nirim."
